TRIESTE – A chain-reaction collision involving three trucks and a van occurred this morning on the A4 motorway, in the section between San Donà di Piave and Cessalto, heading towards Trieste.
The accident happened on Friday at 7:20 AM, in an area already known for a high incidence of crashes.
Two people were injured, both conscious when emergency services arrived. One of the truck drivers, trapped inside the cabin of his vehicle, was rescued by firefighters and handed over to the SUEM 118 medical team. Both injured individuals were transported to hospital.
The Highway Police, technicians from Autostrade Alto Adriatico, and traffic support personnel also responded to the scene, coordinating traffic management, rescue operations and road clearance.
To ease congestion for vehicles coming from Venice, a bypass via the A27/A28 was activated, with messages displayed on variable message panels. By 8:40 AM, queues stretched for six kilometres, and the motorway was temporarily closed in the affected section until the completion of rescue and recovery operations.
The overtaking lane was reopened later in the morning, but traffic delays continued well after due to heavy weekend volumes.
