TRIESTE – The intermodal network of G.T.S. (General Transport Service) is expanding with the start-up of the new Padua–Zeebrugge rail route, operating in both directions.

The connection is designed to meet international market demand and strengthen the logistics axis between Italy and Belgium. The service links North-East Italy with the Port of Zeebrugge, one of Northern Europe’s main gateways, and is based at the Interporto Padova terminal.

Operations are set to begin in mid-January. The first southbound departure from Zeebrugge to Italy is scheduled for 15 January, while the first northbound departure from Italy to Belgium will leave on 18 January. In the initial phase, three weekly rotations are planned, increasing to five rotations per week in the second quarter of 2026.
The service accepts all loading profiles, with the sole exclusion of the SR/P400 standard. It also includes direct handling of UK customs operations at the Padua terminal, strengthening the efficiency of the intermodal chain and reducing operating times for traffic to and from the United Kingdom.
