MONFALCONE – Real estate investments, but above all, investments in people—with a special focus on the Academy, a new training center currently under development.
This is how the future of the Midolini Group was outlined today in Monfalcone during the inauguration ceremony for a new building inside the Portorosega area, where Midsea operates as terminal operator.
Active since 1996 in the ports of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Midolini Group employs over 400 people in total and operates through Midsea in the ports of Monfalcone, Trieste, and Porto Nogaro with more than 200 staff. The year 2024 closed with positive results: over €24 million in revenue (€45 million at group level), 2.3 million tons handled, 23 project cargo operations managed, and over 370,000 lashing activities performed.
“We’re focused on consolidating the company’s structure, and people are a key element in this phase. That’s why one of our main projects for 2025 is the launch of a Group Academy to foster our team’s growth in a stimulating environment. The training center,” explained CEO Giacomo Pittini, “will be located in Udine, but we’re already designing training programs for the Monfalcone site as well. The goal is to equip our team with the skills they need to work efficiently and, above all, safely.”
The Midsea terminal covers a total area of 100,000 square meters: 30,000 dedicated to bulk cargo, 60,000 to general cargo, and 6,400 under roofing. Operations are supported by an in-house workshop.
The new building is designed to meet both operational and administrative needs. It is spread over two levels, with changing rooms, a break area, and staff canteen on the ground floor, and modern, functional offices on the upper floor.
CEO Pittini also mentioned three real estate projects currently underway. At the port of Trieste (where GST operates under Article 16 of Law 84/1994), renovation works are in progress to benefit the 80 staff.
Two additional construction sites have been launched in Udine, where the Group’s headquarters is located, involving a near doubling of the operational site in terms of office space and vehicle facilities.
“Our goal is to continuously improve conditions for our people—to become more attractive and encourage young people to join the Midolini Group and stay with us throughout their careers, maybe even until retirement,” Pittini concluded. “It’s ambitious, and definitely challenging, but we’re giving it a try.”
“Logistics is a strategic sector in which the Region continues to invest with determination during this legislature. The regional logistics platform is a complex and structured infrastructure, built on the synergy between public and private stakeholders, and is a key asset for the economic and industrial development of the region.”
These were the words of regional infrastructure councillor Cristina Amirante, who attended the inauguration ceremony of the new building.
The councillor also emphasized how the Region’s support is reflected in the prudent management of available resources—many of which have already been invested in strengthening port infrastructure, with further funds on the way. “If we want to fully implement the interventions outlined in the NRRP and ensure real competitiveness for our production system, we must act now, while other countries—like Austria and Slovenia—are limiting access to their rail networks,” Amirante added.
