TRIESTE – Porto Marghera was one of the key hubs in a complex logistics operation managed by SIMI for the transfer of two large industrial structures destined for the Saras refinery in Sarroch, Sardinia.

The operation involved two units measuring respectively 54 metres and 190 tonnes, and 20 metres and 95 tonnes, handled through a logistics chain that included exceptional road transport, maritime transport and highly specialised lifting operations.

The first phase of the project involved transferring the structures to Porto Marghera. From there, the two units were loaded with the support of the barges Hercules and Ciclope, used for the subsequent sea voyage to Sardinia. Once they reached their destination, the equipment was unloaded and transferred to the installation area of the Saras refinery using SPMTs (Self-Propelled Modular Transporters), the modular self-propelled vehicles used for handling exceptional loads.
