TRIESTE – Rail links between Villach and Desio are increasing: Rail Cargo Group is introducing two weekly services with one-day transit times.
Since the beginning of the year, the TransFER Villach–Desio service has linked Austria with one of northern Italy’s main industrial areas, offering transport for different types of cargo. The system covers both single wagonload and full wagonload traffic, as well as intermodal units, including 20- to 40-foot containers. RCG integrates end-to-end logistics services, from first to last mile, with transhipment, warehousing, customs operations and final distribution.
The link is part of the TransFER Villach–Italy network, which connects several Italian destinations with regular frequencies, from the North down to the South and Sicily. Within this setup, the Villach Süd yard plays a central role: this is where single wagons and wagon groups are combined to form full trains bound for different markets. On the Italian side, the Desio terminal serves as the distribution point for northern Italy.
