TRIESTE – The €590 million fund earmarked for renewing the road haulage freight vehicle fleet is now official.
The interministerial decree of 24 October 2025, signed by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini and Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, was published in Official Gazette No. 287 yesterday, 11 December 2025.
The measure establishes a structural fund dedicated to the sector’s environmental sustainability, with the aim of supporting road haulage companies in the ecological transition and decarbonisation path. Applications will be submitted through a first-come, first-served procedure: the click day is scheduled from 10:00 on 17 December 2025 until 16:00 on 16 January 2026. The resources will be allocated over multiple years, from 2027 to 2031, with a distribution of €100 million in 2027, €100 million in 2028, €50 million in 2029, €150 million in 2030 and €190 million in 2031.
The operational details of the incentive mechanism will be set out in a subsequent decree by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in agreement with the Ministry of Economy. The measure will clarify eligibility criteria and access procedures, eligible interventions, limits on aid intensity, the implementing body and the monitoring system. The issue will be at the centre of a meeting convened at the Ministry of Transport for Tuesday 16 December.
Confartigianato Trasporti expressed satisfaction. President Claudio Riva said: «We thank Minister Salvini and the Government for making concrete a commitment made some time ago. The promise to support road haulage companies in the ecological transition has been kept. Companies cannot shoulder such significant investments on their own, especially at a time when profitability and competitiveness are under pressure due to rising operating costs».The fund represents one of the main structural measures in support of the sector in recent years and fits into the broader framework of national policies to reduce emissions in road freight transport.
