TRIESTE – A heavy goods vehicle carrying petrol broke down and blocked the A4 between Villesse and Palmanova towards Venice, with closures and diversions put in place to allow safety operations to proceed.
Autostrade Alto Adriatico ordered the closure of the motorway section at around 1.40 pm to allow the fuel to be transferred from the disabled tanker to another unit that arrived on site. The operation became necessary after the mechanical failure that occurred during the morning shortly after the Palmanova interchange. Traffic police, firefighters and concessionaire staff are on site, supported by the NBCR unit of the Trieste fire brigade, called in to handle the most delicate operations linked to the presence of flammable material. The entrance to the Palmanova tollgate towards Venice remains closed, as does the link between the A34 (Gorizia–Villesse) and the A4 towards Venice.
Traffic coming from Trieste is being forced to exit at Villesse. For drivers heading towards Venice, the recommended alternative route is via the SS14 towards Cervignano, rejoining the motorway at the San Giorgio di Nogaro tollgate. The situation is causing major delays along the A4 between Redipuglia and the Palmanova junction, with disruption that could continue until the fuel transfer and vehicle safety operations are completed.
Update:
The Villesse–Palmanova section of the A4 motorway was reopened at around 7 pm today, Monday 30 March, after having been closed earlier بسبب the breakdown of a tanker carrying petrol. Thanks to the assistance of the traffic police and the NBCR (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical and Radiological) unit of the Trieste fire brigade, which oversaw the delicate phases of the operation, it was possible to transfer the fuel safely – and therefore with the necessary absence of traffic – into another tanker that had arrived on site. The A34 (Gorizia–Villesse)/A4 (Trieste–Venice) link towards Venice and the entrance to the Palmanova tollgate in the direction of Venice have also reopened.
