TRIESTE – A serious accident occurred today on the A4 motorway along the three-lane section between the A4/A57 junction and Meolo Roncade, heading towards Trieste.
The crash, which took place shortly after 1:30 PM at kilometer 413, involved a semi-truck and a van. The driver of the van died at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the exact dynamics of the accident. According to initial reports, traffic slowdowns had been repeatedly indicated by the motorway operator through variable message signs. Despite the warnings, a van traveling in the direction of Trieste crashed at high speed into the rear of a semi-truck that had slowed down in stop-and-go traffic.
Firefighters were called to the scene to extract the van driver (a worker from the province of Padua) who was trapped in the vehicle, and to clear the road using a crane truck.
Emergency medical teams, including an air ambulance, could only confirm the man’s death.
