TRIESTE – The container ship Al Jasrah of Hapag-Lloyd was the first commercial vessel to berth today at Rijeka Gateway, marking the official launch of operations at the new terminal.
It is the most modern facility in the Northern Adriatic, the result of a €380 million investment in a joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA. The first operational phase includes 400 meters of quay with a depth of 20 meters, an annual capacity of 650,000 TEUs, expected to exceed one million after expansion, as well as an equipment fleet of 4 STS cranes, 15 RTGs, 2 RMGs and 28 terminal tractors. The terminal also features a unified control center for operations management, powered by renewable energy. Staff have already completed over 50,000 hours of training, including advanced simulations and visits to international terminals.
Today’s inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister Oleg Butković, partners from A.P. Moller-Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, along with the Port of Rijeka Authority and Jadranski Pomorski Servis, whose tugboats assisted with the berthing maneuver. Rijeka Gateway is already part of the Gemini cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd on the EA12 service, strengthening Croatia’s role in international connections and opening new opportunities for the region’s economic development.
