TRIESTE – The Technical Advisory Commission currently under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Authority will be transferred to the Venice Lagoon Authority, gaining responsibility for issuing opinions on permits related to sediment movement within the lagoon.

This change is outlined in the newly approved Infrastructure Decree, in which the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport highlights the measure. “Article 7 of the Decree introduces changes aimed at improving the functionality of the Venice Lagoon Authority,” the ministry stated.

The change was deemed necessary to ensure the optimal management of dredging operations, “a key activity for maintaining lagoon navigation, safeguarding the ecosystem, and preventing hydrogeological risk.” Centralizing these responsibilities under the Venice Lagoon Authority is expected to allow for greater efficiency, faster processes, and more consistent decision-making, enabling more integrated planning and effective execution of interventions.

“This legislative measure,” the statement continues, “is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to streamline procedures and strengthen the bodies in charge of infrastructure management and land protection, with special focus on areas of high environmental and cultural value such as the Venice Lagoon.”
