TRIESTE – The port of Koper is launching abnormal-load transport operations for wind power components along the northern bypass, pending completion of the new permanent road layout.

In the area between warehouse 3 and the new passenger terminal, works are being completed to allow the temporary exit of these loads towards the northern bypass. This solution will be used on an exceptional basis for the transport of blades destined for wind farms, until the new road layout in the Sermin area is completed, with direct access to the motorway network.

The first convoy is scheduled for Friday 27 March in the evening. The transport will be carried out with three trucks and enhanced safety measures, including escort vehicles and reduced speed. The route will start from the passenger terminal area, continue along the northern bypass and then along Ankaranska cesta and Bertoška vpadnica to the expressway towards Ljubljana.

Some traffic disruption is expected, but it should be limited in time and without significant impact on the environment or local residents. The operations fall within the category of abnormal loads and are planned and communicated in advance. Wind turbine blades are a special cargo handled only occasionally, but volumes have been rising in recent years as a result of the energy transition. Two shipments are scheduled for 2026, each consisting of several special transports made up of three heavy vehicles.
