TRIESTE – Fincantieri has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aeronautical Service, an Italian company specialized in aerospace solutions, to launch a partnership aimed at introducing carbon fiber composite materials on a large scale in shipbuilding, both civil and military.
The agreement was signed in La Spezia during Seafuture 2025 by Mauro Manzini, Vice President Sales of Fincantieri’s Naval Vessels Division, and Kris Bordignon, CEO of Aeronautical Service.
The goal of the deal is to strengthen Fincantieri’s path of technological diversification, expanding its industrial scope beyond steel. New-generation composites, enhanced with nanotechnologies and proprietary solutions, guarantee a series of competitive advantages: structural lightness, reduced radar, infrared and magnetic signatures, high mechanical resistance, ballistic protection and fireproof capacity, as well as modularity and adaptability to different mission profiles.
The first concrete application will be the development of a CCH (Combatant Craft Heavy), a high-speed vessel integrating multifunctional composite materials and next-generation stealth performance. The platform will also be designed for drone operations, self-defense systems, and advanced surveillance and communication technologies, with fully reconfigurable payloads.
“Thanks to this agreement we clearly affirm our pioneering role in bringing composite materials to the sea. It is a technological paradigm shift,” explained Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, “that aims to combine innovation, safety and sustainability in all strategic, civil and military applications. We are pleased to collaborate with Aeronautical Service, a technologically cutting-edge SME, to design together the next generation of shipbuilding.”
“For Aeronautical Service it is a great honor to work with a group of excellence such as Fincantieri. This entirely Italian agreement,” said Kris Bordignon, CEO of Aeronautical Service, “strengthens our mission to transfer innovation to leading industrial partners, enhancing our expertise in advanced materials and next-generation platforms”.
