TRIESTE \u2013<\/strong> With 54% of cargo moved by rail<\/strong>, the Port of Trieste stands out as a European benchmark for sustainability and intermodality.<\/p>\n

This figure \u2014 well above not only the Italian average but also that of major European ports \u2014 was presented today in Naples during the launch of the 12th \u201cSea Economy Report\u201d by SRM \u2013 Intesa Sanpaolo\u2019s research center<\/strong>. Trieste\u2019s rail modal share places it ahead of key ports such as Bremerhaven (46.4%), Hamburg (37.2%), Rotterdam (10%), and Valencia (7%).<\/p>\n

Trieste\u2019s performance is even more significant when compared to the European Union\u2019s targets: at least 30% of freight on rail by 2030, and 50% by 2050<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Trieste has already surpassed both thresholds, confirming its position as one of Europe\u2019s most advanced ports in terms of green logistics and intermodal integration.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrieste has already exceeded these thresholds. We knew our rail freight figures were strong, but comparing them with other European ports shows just how significant this result is internationally,\u201d<\/strong> emphasized Antonio Gurrieri, Special Commissioner of the Port Authority<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s a figure that strengthens Trieste\u2019s role and gives Italy a stronger voice in the European debate on sustainable logistics.\u201d<\/p>\n
