TRIESTE \u2013<\/strong> The year has started strong for the Port of Koper, with increases in traffic, revenue and profits<\/strong>. In the first quarter of 2025, total cargo throughput reached 5.6 million tons (+7% compared to Q1 2024)<\/strong>, while 299,712 TEUs (+17%)<\/strong> were handled in the container sector. March set a new monthly record with 110,810 TEUs\u2014the highest ever recorded. Also in March, the port welcomed the first vessel from the new alliance between Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd<\/a>, active since February, which strengthens connections with Far Eastern markets. There was also an increase in container ship calls to various Mediterranean ports.<\/p>\n

At the dedicated terminal, 206,704 vehicles were handled, a 9% increase<\/strong> over the same period in 2024, although slightly below forecasts due to weak demand in the Chinese market and ongoing global economic uncertainty. General cargo rose by 22%<\/strong>, mainly driven by an increase in steel products and timber traffic. Liquid bulk slightly decreased (-6%)<\/strong>, while dry bulk recorded moderate growth.<\/p>\n

On the financial side, in Q1 2025, net revenues of Luka Koper (the port operating company)<\/a> reached \u20ac90.8 million, up 14%<\/strong> (\u20ac11.4 million) compared to 2024.
\nThe growth is linked to the increase in container loading\/unloading services and value-added services<\/strong>, as well as higher maritime traffic. EBIT stood at \u20ac24.1 million (+36%), while EBITDA reached \u20ac31.8 million (+23%).
\nNet profit was \u20ac20 million, up 30% from last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleased that, even in such uncertain times\u2014with European ports under pressure due to rising imports, capacity saturation, and rail network limitations\u2014we\u2019ve achieved strong results. Growth was particularly visible in the container, car and general cargo terminals,\u201d commented Chairwoman of the Board, Nevenka Kr\u017ean.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first quarter, Luka Koper continued its investment plan, allocating \u20ac22.4 million<\/strong> to real estate, plants, equipment, investment properties, and intangible assets\u2014a 101% increase compared to Q1 2024<\/strong>.
\n\u201cThis year we\u2019re continuing at full speed with the multi-year investments launched last year. The northern pier expansion is in full swing, dredging works are nearing completion, and construction of new operational areas will begin soon,\u201d Kr\u017ean added.<\/p>\n
