{"id":36145,"date":"2025-11-06T00:56:45","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T23:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/uncategorized\/consalvo-trieste-must-accelerate-on-pier-viii-and-the-free-port\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T12:42:44","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T11:42:44","slug":"consalvo-trieste-must-accelerate-on-pier-viii-and-the-free-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/shipping-en\/consalvo-trieste-must-accelerate-on-pier-viii-and-the-free-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Consalvo: \u201cTrieste must accelerate on Pier VIII and the Free Port\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TRIESTE &#8211;<\/strong> <strong>Marco Consalvo, candidate for the presidency of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea<\/strong>, outlined today before the Transport Committee of the Chamber of Deputies his vision for the future of the Port of Trieste.<\/p>\n<p>After a brief reminder of the national and European role of the port \u2013 <span class=\"cf1\">the first in Italy for cargo volumes and equipped with a first-class railway network<\/span> \u2013 Consalvo stressed the <strong>need to make the port system competitive with the major Northern European hubs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00abThe president of a port authority must not only manage quays and concessions, but create the conditions for the development of a complex system\u00bb, he said, highlighting the importance of the North Adriatic\u2019s geographical position as a natural junction between the Mediterranean, Central Europe and the Balkans.<\/p>\n<p>Consalvo identified as a priority the unblocking of already planned investments: <strong>\u00abThere are funds that have been frozen for a year. The goal is to accelerate the implementation of the PNRR projects<\/strong>, which allocate 406 million euro to the Port of Trieste, plus 10 million for rail access.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Among the most strategic dossiers, the candidate mentioned <strong>Pier VIII, whose development \u00abwould triple the port\u2019s capacity\u00bb<\/strong>. The project involves an investment of 316 million euro, with a public-private partnership also involving the Port of Hamburg: <strong>\u00abStrong coordination is needed with the MIT (Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure), the MEF (Ministry of Economy and Finance) and the Ministry of the Environment to push this project forward\u00bb<\/strong>, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Another key point of his address was the <strong>revitalisation of the Free Port, which Consalvo considers \u00aba major opportunity not yet fully exploited\u00bb.<\/strong> He stressed the need for regulatory checks to expand the potential of the instrument, enhancing it <strong>\u00abalso in view of the Indo-Mediterranean Corridor (IMEC)\u201d\u00bb<\/strong>. According to Consalvo, combining the fiscal advantages of the Free Port with the new commercial flows between India, the Arabian Peninsula, Suez and the Mediterranean could strengthen Trieste\u2019s role as a strategic logistics hub for Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In his hearing, he also recalled the importance of sustainability, energy transition and shore-side electrification, stressing the need for constant dialogue with all stakeholders in Trieste and Monfalcone. <strong>\u00abOnly a shared strategy can guarantee trust, transparency and growth\u00bb he
