TRIESTE –<\/strong> In recent days, the port of Trieste hosted the first LNG (liquefied natural gas) bunkering operation to a container ship in Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The LNG carrier Ravenna Knutsen of the Edison Group carried out the bunkering operation on the LNG-powered container ship CMA CGM Salamanque<\/strong>, employed by the CMA CGM Group in the Mediterranean.
\nThe operation took place at Pier VII, managed by Trieste Marine Terminal, and was made possible thanks to the new \u201cRegulation for ship-to-ship bunkering of LNG and BIO-LNG\u201d<\/strong>, approved by Ordinance of 23 October 2025 by the Trieste Harbour Master\u2019s Office \u2013 Coast Guard, which replaced the previous 2024 rules.<\/p>\n

The new regulation allows bunkering operations at any time of day, including at night<\/strong>, expanding operational possibilities and strengthening the competitiveness of the port of Trieste in the field of alternative fuels.
\n\u00abThe monitoring and supervisory work carried out by the Harbour Master\u2019s Office ensured that the operation was conducted in conditions of maximum safety and environmental protection, consolidating the role of the Maritime Authority as a reference point in the management of new energy technologies in the port sector<\/strong>\u00bb reads a note.
\nThe Harbour Master\u2019s Office also points out that the success of the refuelling, carried out in cooperation between Edison and CMA CGM\u2014two leading players in the energy transition in maritime transport\u2014confirms the joint commitment of institutions and private operators to promoting LNG as a concrete solution for reducing emissions and aligning with new EU directives as well as current IMO regulations.<\/p>\n

In July of last year, the port had already completed \u2013 again at Pier VII \u2013 the first LNG (liquefied natural gas) refuelling operation between a ship and a bunker barge in the port of Trieste.<\/a><\/p>\n
