TRIESTE –<\/strong> Navigational safety, infrastructure development and protection of the marine environment<\/strong>. These were the issues at the centre of the first institutional meeting between the Trieste Harbour Master\u2019s Office and the new president of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, Marco Consalvo<\/strong>, held today at the Coast Guard headquarters.<\/span><\/p>\n The meeting between Consalvo and the port commander and Maritime Director for Friuli Venezia Giulia, Navy Captain Luciano Del Prete, marked the start of an operational dialogue between the two institutions on key matters for the functioning and development of the regional port system. The focus was on coordination of responsibilities, particularly on safety, infrastructure and governance at the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone<\/strong>, considered strategic nodes for national and international traffic. The centrality of the safety and security agenda was also underlined by the security drill held yesterday in the port of Trieste, in the Free Port Mineral Oils area.<\/strong> Coordinated by the Harbour Master\u2019s Office together with the Maritime Border Police, the exercise falls within the National Maritime Security Programme and was used to test the effectiveness of the procedures set out in the port security plan and in the plans of the port facilities involved.<\/span><\/p>\n The simulated scenario involved suspicious drone flights over the petroleum facilities and the approach of a rubber dinghy with three people on board<\/strong>. The facilities concerned activated the prescribed security measures, while the Harbour Master\u2019s operations room coordinated threat assessment and the deployment of patrol vessels, in coordination with the Maritime Border Police.
