The incentive provides for a <strong>reduction in tariffs in favour of rail freight operators and their customers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In practice, it is <strong>a true \u201cport Ferrobonus\u201d, designed to counter the decline in rail traffic at ports.<\/strong> According to industry data, <strong>between 2021 and 2024 the number of freight trains originating from and destined to ports fell by around five percentage points.<\/strong> In addition to geopolitical issues and reduced network capacity, the costs of rail shunting services within ports have also played a role. The European decision, valid for five years, allows Port System Authorities to grant <strong>contributions of up to 500,000 euros per year each<\/strong>, within an <strong>overall cap of 30 million euros over the reference period<\/strong>. The contribution is intended for rail shunting operators, who will have to pass on 50% to railway undertakings, following the already familiar Ferrobonus model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00abIt is a necessary measure and one the sector has been waiting for. This intervention will help intermodal rail transport in ports at a particularly critical moment\u00bb commented Giuseppe Rizzi, Director General of Fermerci<\/strong>. For the measure to become operational, an interministerial implementing decree is now awaited. Only afterwards will Port System Authorities be able to decide whether to proceed, on an optional basis, with publishing calls for the allocation of incentives. Fermerci also notes that in recent days an amendment has already been proposed to the Milleproroghe Decree, currently undergoing conversion in the Chamber of Deputies, to <strong>extend the deadlines of the measure, which is currently envisaged only until the end of 2026<\/strong>, \u201cin compliance with the European authorisation, which would make it
