In a context marked by the <strong>growing complexity of contracts and the increasing shortage of specialised labour<\/strong>, the integration of advanced autonomous systems aims to ensure production continuity, raise quality standards and strengthen safety at the shipyard.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership combines Fincantieri\u2019s industrial know-how with the robotics platform developed by Generative Bionics, an Italian company focused on designing autonomous humanoid robots. <strong>The first application area is naval welding<\/strong>, a core activity in the construction and outfitting processes of high-complexity units, where precision, repeatability and weld-bead quality control are crucial.<br \/>\nThe humanoid will be equipped with artificial intelligence and advanced manipulation, sensing and vision capabilities, with dedicated systems for weld-bead monitoring and locomotion optimised for operating in complex production environments characterised by tight and variable spaces. <strong>Particular attention will be paid to safety aspects<\/strong>, with the aim of enabling the robot to work in direct collaboration with operators, in compliance with applicable regulations and without rigidly segregated work areas.<\/p>\n<p>Development and testing activities will take place mainly at the Sestri Ponente shipyard, identified as an industrial laboratory for technology validation and certification. After the initial testing phase, the programme provides for a pathway of refinement, functional expansion and industrial certification, so as to progressively integrate the solution into production flows.<br \/>\n<strong>For Fincantieri, a global leader in high-complexity shipbuilding, the project represents a further step in its automation and process digitalisation strategy.<\/strong> The adoption of solutions based on physical AI is seen as a lever to support workers in the most repetitive, strenuous or ergonomically unfavourable tasks, while preserving key skills and the quality of work.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abAdvanced robotics and artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes are a strategic lever for the evolution of shipbuilding and for the competitiveness of Europe\u2019s industrial system\u00bb, said <strong>Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Fincantieri<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOn Generative Bionics\u2019 side, the partnership represents one of the first structured industrial validation paths for its platform in a high-complexity production context such as shipbuilding, a strategic sector for global manufacturing and a significant test bed for the reliability of autonomous systems.<br \/>\n\u00abThe collaboration with Fincantieri is part of our industrialisation pathway towards the market\u00bb, said <strong>Daniele Pucci, CEO and Co-Founder of Generative Bionics<\/strong>. \u00abShipyards are a strategic asset for global manufacturing and that is why we chose Fincantieri to demonstrate how our Physical AI solutions can translate into reliable, safe and genuinely useful systems.
