{"id":38506,"date":"2026-04-14T17:41:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T15:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/uncategorized\/port-of-trieste-servola-station-needs-more-time-and-new-resources\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T17:42:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T15:42:15","slug":"port-of-trieste-servola-station-needs-more-time-and-new-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/logistics\/port-of-trieste-servola-station-needs-more-time-and-new-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of Trieste, Servola station needs more time and new resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TRIESTE \u2013<\/strong> As already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/shipping-en\/port-of-trieste-new-servola-station-by-2030\/\">announced by the president of the Trieste Port Authority<\/a>, the timeframe for the new Servola railway station in Trieste is slipping, while new financial coverage is being sought to complete the project.<br \/>\nThe <strong>Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea have opened discussions with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy to redefine the project\u2019s timing and resources<\/strong>. The aim is <strong>to postpone the testing deadline to 2030<\/strong> and obtain <strong>a further 19 million euros<\/strong>, needed to cover an updated total cost of 199 million.<br \/>\nRegional infrastructure councillor Cristina Amirante reminded the Regional Council that an extension has already been granted for completion of the design phase to December 2026, but that a broader review of the project is now being pursued. <strong>The increase in costs is linked to price updates and design changes developed over the past few years.<\/strong> Without the additional resources, the project would not be fully funded.<br \/>\nThe project has already suffered significant delays. In April 2025, the Port Authority <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/logistics\/trieste-port-authority-halts-tender-for-servola-station-project\/\">revoked the tender for the award of the works<\/a>, a decision later upheld by the Council of State in February 2026. <strong>The decision was based on the impossibility of meeting the March 2026 deadline, required in order to access funding from the National Complementary Plan to the NRRP.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Servola station is considered a key infrastructure for the port of Trieste. The project aims to strengthen the rail node, allowing the handling of trains up to 750 metres long and improving the port\u2019s integration into European and international logistics corridors, including the axis linked to IMEC. In addition to its logistics function, <strong>the project also includes environmental safety works and the creation of a green area serving the
