{"id":39169,"date":"2026-05-15T20:32:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T18:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/uncategorized\/hhla-slows-in-first-quarter-2026-as-bad-weather-weighs\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T21:32:54","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T19:32:54","slug":"hhla-slows-in-first-quarter-2026-as-bad-weather-weighs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/news-en\/hhla-slows-in-first-quarter-2026-as-bad-weather-weighs\/","title":{"rendered":"HHLA slows in first quarter 2026 as bad weather weighs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TRIESTE &#8211;<\/strong> The first quarter of 2026 for <a href=\"https:\/\/hhla.de\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG<\/a> was affected by bad weather and geopolitical tensions, with <strong>an impact on the German group\u2019s port and rail operations.<\/strong><br \/>\nSevere winter conditions temporarily limited operations at Hamburg\u2019s container terminals, while rail transport saw delays and cancellations due to line closures and frozen switches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the first three months of the year, container throughput fell by 5.3%, from 1.544 million to 1.462 million TEU<\/strong>. Intermodal traffic also declined, down 1.5% to 489,000 TEU.<br \/>\nDespite this, the group closed the quarter with <strong>revenue up 3.5% to 450.9 million euros, while EBIT fell by 6.3%<\/strong> to 30.5 million euros. <strong>Net profit dropped sharply<\/strong> to 0.9 million euros, compared with 7.9 million euros in the same period of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to HHLA, the severe winter and the restructuring of shipping alliances both had an impact, altering some trade flows. In particular, traffic with North America and the Far East declined, especially with China.<br \/>\nThe situation was different for the group\u2019s <strong>international terminals, which recorded growth of 21.5%, reaching 88,000 TEU<\/strong>.
