TRIESTE –<\/strong> The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and RFI are working on a revision of the programme of works on the Udine-Tarvisio railway line<\/a>, with the aim of reducing the impact of the closures planned over the next three years on the regional logistics system.<\/p>\n

The new development that emerged from the meeting between regional infrastructure councillor Cristina Amirante and the chief executive officer of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), Aldo Isi,<\/strong> concerns the search for alternative technical solutions to make the planned works along one of the main railway routes in the North-East more sustainable.<\/p>\n

The planned works on the section concern maintenance of the tunnels and other infrastructure works linked to the overall development of the line<\/strong>. These works are considered essential, but risk having significant consequences, especially for freight traffic connecting the port of Trieste to Central European markets through the Tarvisio border crossing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For this reason, the Region and RFI are assessing the possibility of spreading the works over a longer period, replacing the long interruptions initially planned with shorter closures that would be more manageable for rail operators, port terminals, interports and businesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The international context is also part of the assessment. The Region has highlighted the need to coordinate the Italian works with the planned closure of the Tauern line in Austria<\/a><\/strong>, scheduled for next year. The aim is to avoid overlapping major interruptions along the main Alpine rail corridors, thereby limiting the impact on European freight traffic and on the competitiveness of Friuli Venezia Giulia\u2019s logistics platform.<\/p>\n

According to Amirante, RFI has shown full willingness to discuss the issue of the closures scheduled for the period between 2026 and 2028<\/strong>, with the aim of finding a balance between the need to carry out the works and the need to ensure the continuity of logistics flows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
