TRIESTE \u2013 A new European “green light” for the project of the new railway line between the Port of Koper and Diva\u010da. The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has concluded its 2022\u20132023 audit without findings, while construction continues to progress with the arrival of the first fan for the line\u2019s ventilation and fire safety system. The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) completed its audit of the Koper\u2013Diva\u010da rail project without identifying any ineligible costs, irregularities in public procurement procedures, or other issues requiring financial corrections or recommendations. The review covered the 2022\u20132023 period under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF 2016) funding program, which co-finances studies, design, and construction of access infrastructure, the connection in the Glin\u0161\u010dica valley (Val Rosandra, Italy), and the relocation of the existing railway line in the Diva\u010da area. Auditors verified the eligibility of expenses, the functionality of internal controls, compliance with procurement procedures, and the project’s adherence to the conditions stipulated in the grant agreement. According to CINEA, the project’s financial management is in full compliance with European Union requirements. For 2TDK, the company tasked with the project’s implementation, this outcome confirms the correct management of European funds and compliance with the required standards of transparency and control. This positive result follows several other audits completed in recent months. In March, the European Court of Auditors also concluded its audit without any observations, while neither the Budget Supervision Office of the Republic of Slovenia nor the audit regarding the CEF 2017 program identified any irregularities. On the operational front, the project continues to advance. On July 1st, the first of two fans intended for the ventilation and fire safety station of the new railway line arrived from Spain via special transport. The second is expected to arrive in the coming days. The system will be installed at the ventilation station located between the Glin\u0161\u010dica viaduct and the Beka tunnel along the new route. The system will serve a particularly sensitive 13-kilometer continuous stretch of the infrastructure, consisting of the Lokev tunnel (T1), the covered Glin\u0161\u010dica viaduct, and the Beka tunnel (T2). The fans, featuring a 3.5-meter diameter, a weight of 17 tons each, and 560 kW motors, are capable of moving up to 250 cubic meters of air per second. Furthermore, they are certified to operate at temperatures up to 400\u00b0C for at least two hours in the event of a fire, maintaining pressure in evacuation routes. The second track of the Diva\u010da\u2013Koper line is one of Slovenia\u2019s flagship railway projects and is part of the Baltic\u2013Adriatic TEN-T Corridor. Once completed, currently scheduled for between 2027 and 2028, it will increase the rail capacity of the Port of Koper toward Central Europe, with significant implications for the logistics balance of the entire North Adriatic and the competitiveness of rail connections for ports in the region, including Trieste.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
