{"id":40459,"date":"2026-07-18T18:31:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T16:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/uncategorized\/cold-ironing-hapag-lloyd-signs-agreement-with-the-port-of-hamburg\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T18:51:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T16:51:48","slug":"cold-ironing-hapag-lloyd-signs-agreement-with-the-port-of-hamburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adriaports.com\/en\/news-en\/cold-ironing-hapag-lloyd-signs-agreement-with-the-port-of-hamburg\/","title":{"rendered":"Cold Ironing: Hapag-Lloyd Signs Agreement with the Port of Hamburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TRIESTE &#8211;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hapag-lloyd.com\/en\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hapag-Lloyd<\/a> has signed an agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamburg-port-authority.de\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA)<\/a> to <strong>use shore power<\/strong> at all terminals in the German port. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The agreement reinforces the use of the onshore power supply (OPS) infrastructure, which has already been successfully utilized by the container ships &#8220;Al Muraykh&#8221; and &#8220;Tihama&#8221; during their recent calls on the NE2 Asia-Northern Europe route.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Under the agreement, Hapag-Lloyd will use<strong> shore power whenever the infrastructure is available<\/strong> and its use is operationally and economically viable, integrating it into its normal fleet operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cShore power is an important element in our journey toward low-emission ship operations in ports and toward our goal of achieving net-zero emissions for our entire fleet by 2045 <strong>,<\/strong> \u201d said <strong>Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen<\/strong> \u201cAll our newbuilds are already equipped for shore power, and we are retrofitting eligible existing vessels. Wherever the infrastructure is available and its use is economically viable, we use shore power. \u201cHamburg demonstrates how investments in low-emission shipping operations can be put into practice.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shore power allows ships equipped with the appropriate systems to shut down their auxiliary engines while docked in port, powering onboard services directly from the shore power grid. This technology helps reduce air emissions and noise pollution in port areas. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Currently, <strong>about 35% of Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s fleet is already equipped to use shore power<\/strong>, while all of the company\u2019s new ships are being built with this capability as part of its decarbonization strategy, which aims to achieve <strong>climate neutrality by
