TRIESTE – Fincantieri has signed the new concession for the Port of Ancona, launching a development plan for the shipyard with a €40 million investment.
The agreement between the Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority and Fincantieri governs the use of more than 314,000 square metres of land areas, water basins and port facilities. The concession, valid until the end of 2064, enables the company to strengthen shipbuilding activities at the Ancona site and consolidate the industrial presence established over the years.
The concession concludes a process that began in 2017 and allows Fincantieri to implement a modernisation plan for the Marche shipyard. The €40 million investment will increase the site’s production capacity and enhance its competitiveness in the construction of large vessels.
The agreement follows the November 2023 accord on the growth and innovation of Ancona’s shipbuilding sector, confirming the shared commitment to reinforcing the port’s strategic role and the economic contribution of the shipyard to the region.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, described the concession as a decisive step for the site’s future, highlighting Ancona’s central importance for the international competitiveness of Italian shipbuilding. The goal is to develop the yard into a hub capable of combining tradition and advanced technologies.
Vincenzo Garofalo, President of the Ancona Port Authority, stressed the long-term industrial value of Fincantieri’s presence in the port, noting how cruise ship construction in Ancona continues to drive innovation, employment and opportunities for the supply chain in the Marche region and central Italy.
