TRIESTE – The delivery ceremony for the MPCS (Multipurpose Combat Ship PPA) KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321 was held today at the Muggiano shipyard (La Spezia). It is the second of two multi-mission combat units built by Fincantieri for the Indonesian Navy.

The delivery follows that of her sister ship KRI BRAWIJAYA-320, which took place last July, thus completing the supply of the two vessels built by Fincantieri: they will be the largest combat ships in the Indonesian Navy, as well as the most technologically advanced units in the Indo-Pacific. The two vessels represent a strategic element for stability in the Asian theatre and for safeguarding Indonesia’s national interests, further strengthening the partnership between Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence.

The MPCS/PPA is a highly versatile class of ship designed to carry out a wide range of missions, including front-line combat operations, patrol duties with search-and-rescue-at-sea capability, and Civil Protection operations. The unit can also deploy fast craft such as RHIBs (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats), handled via side cranes or a launching ramp located at the stern.

Main features:

143 metres overall length Speed over 31 knots Crew of 171 Combined diesel and gas-turbine propulsion plant, plus an electric propulsion system.

Attending today’s ceremony were Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy; the Indonesian Ambassador to Italy, Junimart Girsang; and Squadron Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy. Representing Fincantieri were CEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero and Eugenio Santagata, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division.
