TRIESTE – Fincantieri has delivered the KRI Brawijaya-320 to the Indonesian Navy, the first of two new multipurpose combat ships of the PPA (Multipurpose Patrol Ship) class, built at the Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia.

The ceremony, held yesterday, was attended by Italian and Indonesian civil and military authorities, reaffirming the strong defense cooperation between the two countries. The KRI Brawijaya-320 is set to become one of the largest vessels in the Indonesian fleet, to be followed by her sister ship KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, which is currently being completed. Both ships will enhance the Navy’s operational capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.

Designed for maximum operational flexibility, the PPA-class ships are capable of combat, patrol, search and rescue, and civil protection missions. They feature advanced technology, a combined diesel-gas propulsion system, and can accommodate up to 171 crew members.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Fincantieri Marine Group—the group’s U.S. subsidiary—has announced the appointment of George A. Moutafis as its new CEO, effective July 1, 2025. With over 25 years of experience in defense and industrial transformation, Moutafis has previously collaborated with FMG and is seen as a key figure to lead the group’s growth at a time when the U.S. administration is placing renewed strategic focus on strengthening the naval fleet.

Fincantieri has operated in the U.S. for over 15 years with four shipyards and around 3,000 employees. Its investments have exceeded $800 million, most of which have gone toward expanding the Marinette facility in Wisconsin, reinforcing the Italian group’s central role in the U.S. Navy’s supply chain.
