TRIESTE – Full operational status also for the management and maintenance of MOSE, with the decree signed by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, for the Venice Lagoon Authority – New Magistrato alle Acque.
In addition to the appointment of Architect Roberto Rossetto as president, the members of the envisaged governing bodies have also been designated, making the authority fully operational.
The Authority’s main objectives are to safeguard the city of Venice and its lagoon, and to maintain the lagoon’s hydraulic regime.
«The authority is the guarantor of the protection and sustainable management of this delicate ecosystem, acting in accordance with the principles of legality, impartiality and transparency, pursuing efficiency, cost-effectiveness and effectiveness», a note from the Ministry recalls.
Among its main functions are also the management and maintenance of MOSE, as well as the design and management of safeguarding interventions in the lagoon area, supervision and protection of the maritime state property. MOSE management has a significant impact on Porto Marghera which, at every barrier raising, becomes inaccessible to ships. For this reason, in the coming days a meeting is scheduled between the presidents of the lagoon authority, Roberto Rossetto, and of the Ports of Venice and Chioggia, Matteo Gasparato, together with operators.
