TRIESTE – A new rail agreement between Trieste and Hungary strengthens Adria Port’s development path, the Hungarian terminal currently under construction in the Friuli Venezia Giulia port.

Adria Port Zrt. has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with GYSEV CARGO Zrt. to develop a sea–rail connection between the port of Trieste and the Hungarian market.
The aim is to ensure a regular rail link between the North Adriatic and Hungary, the integration of intermodal infrastructure, and long-term cooperation. The agreement was signed by Péter Garai for Adria Port and András Riegler and Péter Tisza for GYSEV Cargo.

The Adria Port project предусматри the construction of a terminal dedicated to Hungary within the port of Trieste, with the goal of providing a direct maritime outlet for the country’s traffic. In recent years, the Budapest government has invested in acquiring areas within the port precisely to strengthen its logistics presence on the Adriatic.

Last week, Adria Port’s management also took part in Budapest in a technical meeting with the Maritime Transport Committee of the Magyar Szállítmányozók Szövetsége (the Hungarian freight forwarders’ association) and with the Association of Hungarian Danube Ports, at the headquarters of Budapest Freeport Logistics. During the meeting, the project’s progress, the terminal development concept and possible integrations with the Hungarian logistics system were presented.
Discussions with freight forwarders and operators focused in particular on rail connections, the planned capacities and how to integrate Hungarian flows into the maritime services currently operating at the port of Trieste. The stated objective is to build an integrated logistics chain linking port, rail and the domestic market.
