TRIESTE – The rail terminal operated by Midsea at the Port of Monfalcone is now in service, with the first operation handling steel products for Arvedi Cremona.
The terminal’s commissioning is the outcome of a process developed together with the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority. For Midsea, it is an operational step that opens up new opportunities for ship–rail integration and strengthens the port’s competitive profile.
The works are part of a broader project to upgrade the Port of Monfalcone’s rail infrastructure. Midsea carried out a track extension of around 600 metres close to the terminal, with a €700,000 investment provided for under the concession, alongside other interventions aimed at improving the area’s overall operational performance.
These days, unloading is under way from a vessel arriving from the United States with cargo destined for Arvedi in Cremona. The infrastructure upgrade now enables the marshalling of heavy trains carrying steel products, making the link to the industrial hinterland more efficient. A share of the coils destined for Arvedi’s plant in Trieste will also be routed by rail.
According to Midsea CEO Andrea Valentinuzzi, the start-up of the rail terminal is an important step forward in sustainability terms, thanks to greater use of rail and a reduction in road haulage. Uncertainties tied to the broader economic context remain, but the company is looking to 2026 with confidence, aiming to consolidate volumes and leverage the new rail asset as a growth driver for the Port of Monfalcone.
