TRIESTE – Collaboration between Circle Group and Gruppo Setramar is getting under way in Ravenna to digitize processes in terminal operations and freight forwarding services.
The agreement aims to work on the operating and document management systems of the group’s companies active at the Emilia-Romagna port, starting with an analysis of processes and software used in terminal activities (Terminal Operating System) and logistics operations (Transport Management System). The objective is to reduce operating times, improve flow security and make information management more efficient.
A central part of the project concerns the dematerialization of transport documents. The introduction of solutions for the digital management of e-CMR (electronic consignment note) and e-DDT (electronic transport document) is planned, tools that are now central to European regulatory developments and supply chain innovation programmes. The initiative also fits within the framework of the LogIN Business programme, aimed at strengthening interoperability and system integration across the logistics chain.
In the project, Circle acts as the technology and consulting partner, bringing expertise developed in port and intermodal settings. The initiative is aimed at an overall review of operational processes, with the integration of digital tools capable of connecting terminals, logistics operators and freight forwarders more directly.
The path is being developed within the port of Ravenna, one of Italy’s reference hubs for dry bulk traffic and the related industrial supply chains. In this context, the push for digitization is also linked to the strategies of the Port Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea, which in recent years has focused on multimodal integration and innovation in information systems.
Gruppo Setramar has been operating in logistics and port services since 1967 and is Italy’s leading private operator for dry bulk cargoes. At the port of Ravenna it manages four multipurpose port terminals, owned areas covering more than 600,000 square metres, around 2 km of quays and 20 port cranes, with more than 200 employees. Setramar is able to handle more than 6 million tonnes of steel products, grains and milled products, agri-food products in general, fertilizers, minerals, aggregates, forest products, general cargo and breakbulk, project cargo as well as containers.
