TRIESTE – Fincantieri is strengthening its industrial presence in the United States with new recognition obtained by its American shipyards in workplace safety and operational excellence. At the same time, the group also celebrated the entry into service of the USS Cleveland (LCS 31), the new US Navy unit built by Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the association representing the US shipbuilding and ship repair industry, has assigned its 2025 national awards to three production sites of the Italian group: Fincantieri ACE Marine in Green Bay, Fincantieri Marine Repair in Jacksonville and Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.
Fincantieri ACE Marine and Fincantieri Marine Repair received the “Excellence in Safety” award, assigned to shipyards recording a TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) below the industry average. This is one of the main indicators used in the United States to measure recordable workplace injuries. Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Fincantieri Marine Repair instead received the “Improvement in Safety” award, assigned to shipyards that reduced their TRIR by at least 10% compared with the previous year. For Fincantieri Marine Repair, this is the first national recognition received in the field of safety.
A further result came for Fincantieri ACE Marine, which also won the “Significant Safety Achievement” award, reserved for shipyards with a TRIR below 1.0. In 2025, only three US shipyards achieved this level.
According to Fincantieri, the awards reflect an increasingly prevention-oriented approach and the use of predictive systems based on data analysis, continuous improvement and advanced technologies applied to industrial safety. On the production and military front, the group also took part in the commissioning ceremony for the USS Cleveland (LCS 31), held in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. With the event, the ship officially entered service in the US Navy fleet.
USS Cleveland was built by Fincantieri through the Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard, with the support of the Wisconsin shipyard system and industrial collaboration with Lockheed Martin. Representatives of the US Navy, local authorities and the ship’s sponsor Robyn Modly attended the ceremony, with Modly recalling the contribution of the workers involved in building the unit. Fincantieri stressed the value of the work carried out by its teams and by the suppliers involved in the US naval programme.
