TRIESTE – A new rail shuttle service has been operating since 15 June between the HHLA PLT Italy terminal in the port of Trieste and the Interporto di Cervignano del Friuli.
The new service directly connects the Trieste multipurpose terminal with the Cervignano logistics hub, creating a dedicated rail link to support Ro-Ro traffic and transport chains bound for Central and Eastern European markets. The connection, designed to strengthen intermodality and logistics integration in Friuli Venezia Giulia, takes on particular significance as an expression of the effort being made by the public sector, through the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, and private operators to turn the region into a single interconnected logistics platform.
The initiative is managed by Plus Intermodal, agent of duisport, and was developed with the aim of optimising operational flows, improving supply chain efficiency and consolidating HHLA PLT Italy’s role as a logistics gateway for European corridors.
In the initial phase, the connection provides for four rail movements per week, with two arrivals and two departures from the Trieste terminal. The solution will make it possible to integrate maritime transport more effectively with rail transport, also helping to reduce pressure on truck flows entering and leaving the terminal.
Interporto di Trieste, which has duisport among its shareholders, also collaborated on the project, as part of the strategy aimed at strengthening rail links within the duisport network and enhancing the regional logistics system.
