TRIESTE – New training pathways to work on Costa Cruises ships, with a model that in Friuli Venezia Giulia is being described as a national benchmark.
The Region, together with the company, presented in Trieste a new cycle of “Recruiting lab” programmes, co-designed to help unemployed and jobless people enter the cruise sector. According to Labour Councillor Alessia Rosolen, it is now a consolidated model, born as an experiment and since become a regional standard for targeted training.
The programme was created to respond to the mismatch between available skills and the needs of companies. The collaboration with Costa Cruises, represented at the meeting by employer branding manager Daniela Cimone, is part of a sector marked by high turnover and constant demand for staff.
The figures indicate a high placement rate: 97% of participants who complete selection and training are hired. From 2017 to March 2026, 469 people have been involved.
The courses, organised with Enaip FVG, last between 452 and 556 hours and also include the certifications required to go on board. Part of the training will take place outside the region in order to obtain the mandatory certificates.
There are 57 positions open: 15 entertainers, 15 audio-video technicians, 15 photographers and 12 cruise sales consultants.
Applications must be submitted by 18 May through the regional Offerte Lavoro FVG portal. The selection process is divided into three stages: online written tests on 26 May, online language interviews between 27 and 29 May and in-person practical tests in Trieste from 3 to 5 June. Courses are scheduled to start on 22 June.
At the end of the pathway, hires are expected with fixed-term maritime contracts of 4-6 months, renewable.
Requirements include an upper secondary school diploma or equivalent vocational qualification and knowledge of English at least at A2 level. A second foreign language is also required for some positions. Unemployed people resident or domiciled in Friuli Venezia Giulia may apply.
