TRIESTE – Assarmatori’s general assembly, meeting today in Rome, has confirmed Stefano Messina as President for the next four years.

The decision was unanimous, after the Nomination Committee had already indicated his name in the autumn following internal consultations.
Proceedings opened with the outgoing President’s report and that of the Executive Board, along with an update of the association’s bylaws aimed at strengthening its efficiency and effectiveness.
The Executive Board was renewed at the same time. Stefano Beduschi, Gaudenzio Bonaldo Gregori, Matteo Catani, Franco Del Giudice, Mariaceleste Lauro, Luigi Merlo, Achille Onorato, Salvatore Ravenna, Vincenzo Romeo and Pasquale Russo were confirmed. Luigi Cafiero, Giacomo Gavarone, Corrado Neri and Ivanhoe Romin join the new body.

Vice Presidents Achille Onorato and Vincenzo Romeo were also confirmed, joined by Franco Del Giudice. The operational structure will continue to be led by Secretary General Alberto Rossi and Deputy Secretary General Giovanni Consoli, with offices in Rome, Genoa and Brussels.
In his speech, Messina outlined the priorities for the new term: revising European environmental policies considered penalising for maritime transport, cutting red tape and enhancing human resources. He also pointed to the need to strengthen the competitiveness of the Italian shipping industry in an international context shaped by new environmental rules and tensions on trade flows.
