TRIESTE – After the big celebration, the journey begins. The world’s largest valve, produced by Orion Valves, is ready to be delivered to Saudi Arabia, departing from the Port of Trieste.
An event held last 11 December, with institutional representatives and guests from dozens of countries, celebrated a true industrial feat made in Friuli Venezia Giulia and the official recognition by Guinness World Records. The 114-inch valve, weighing 120 tonnes, produced by Orion, was placed in a plastic-material “shell” and transported to the Seadock quay (Samer Group) on the Navigable Canal of the Industrial Port.
From there, in the coming days it will be loaded as a heavy lift on board the Mv Asian Victory bound for Saudi Arabia, where it will be installed by the customer, Saudi Aramco, at the Amiral project facility in Jubail.
«We are at the final chapter of a great project that started over a year ago and culminated in this important recognition. The record-setting valve – commented Orion President Luca Farina – is now being delivered to the client and sets sail for Saudi Arabia: we are truly proud of what we have achieved and already looking ahead to future challenges across multiple sectors, from oil and gas to nuclear».
The valve, classified as a 114″ – 150 Class Rating Cast Steel Wedge Gate Valve API 600, marks the first Guinness World Record for the Trieste-based company. With a height of 13,950 millimetres and a weight of about 120 tonnes, the valve was developed for the Amiral project, a world-class petrochemical complex under construction in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, through a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies. The valve will be installed in the flare line header system, one of the critical components of oil production facilities designed to control and manage process gases.
