TRIESTE – For PSA Intermodal Italy, developing Padua’s intermodal terminal is a strategic choice looking to the medium and long term and to integration into major international rail and logistics networks.

This is the core message conveyed by Roberto Ferrari, CEO of PSA Italy, during the presentation of the industrial vision of the consortium formed by PSA Intermodal Italy NV and Logtainer Srl, selected as partner for the future of the Interporto Padova terminal.
«Padua represents, in our view, a logistics node of major relevance for the Italian and European industrial system», Ferrari stressed, making the project’s approach clear from the outset. A vision centred on intermodal integration, international rail connections and sustainability, while respecting the decision-making processes still under way and the subsequent approvals required from the public bodies that are shareholders of Interporto Padova.

According to Ferrari, the goal is to contribute responsibly to the growth of the terminal and the territory, bringing to bear the experience PSA has built up in its Italian and international terminals. «By bringing the experience of our terminals to Padua, we strengthen our ability to offer integrated services and increase competitiveness, efficiency and sustainability for Italian companies and for the North-East’s production chains», the CEO highlighted.

Once the authorisation process is completed, the project envisages the establishment of Intermodal Terminal Padova Srl, with Interporto Padova set to retain a significant stake and a strategic role, ensuring operational continuity. Within this framework, PSA intends to enhance Padua as a reference inland hub, strengthening links with the main Italian ports and with north–south and east–west rail corridors.

The industrial approach outlined by Ferrari reflects the global profile of the PSA Group, present in more than 45 countries and already active in Italy in the ports of Genoa and Venice, with a significant share of Italy’s containerised traffic. In the Group’s intentions, this know-how can translate in Padua into infrastructure development, digitalisation and a shift from road traffic to rail intermodality.
Pending the final closing of the procedure, PSA’s vision places Padua at the centre as a strategic node in European logistics chains, with an approach geared to sustainable growth and the competitiveness of the industrial system.

«Interporto Padova conducted the procedure in full compliance with regulations and transparency principles, with the aim of identifying an industrial proposal consistent with the company’s development plan and with the public interest – said Interporto Padova President Luciano Greco –. The process now foresees assessments and approvals by the competent bodies, which will be handled with the usual institutional transparency and correctness. At this stage it is important to maintain a climate of responsibility and attention towards work, the companies based here and the territory. Naturally, we are pleased to be able to work on this partnership with international operators such as PSA and with an Italian excellence in the logistics and intermodal sector such as Logtainer, safeguarding the terminal’s strategic set-up and committing together to generate lasting value for the territory and the productive system not only of our region but of the whole country».
