TRIESTE – With the Rijeka–Tuzla TransFER service, the first intermodal connection of this kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being launched, opening up new prospects for the region.
Rail operator Rail Cargo Group is ushering in a new phase for Bosnian freight transport, thanks to a direct intermodal service between the industrial area of Tuzla and the port of Rijeka. A move that broadens access to international markets and strengthens the country’s role on routes to Central and South-Eastern Europe.
Tuzla has been one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most important industrial hubs for decades. Energy, chemicals, mining and manufacturing form the backbone of the local economy and generate significant cargo flows, often difficult to manage by road alone. The new rail link introduces a stable and more sustainable solution, with planned transit times and volumes and lower emissions compared with road transport.
The service provides one round trip per week, with a capacity of 76 TEU per train, and is integrated with port-to-door services enabling direct delivery to customers. «Standardised processes reduce the administrative burden and speed up shipment handling. For companies, this means simpler logistics, more predictable costs and faster access to the international network through the port of Rijeka», Rail Cargo Group said in a statement.
