TRIESTE – Volksbank is financing the purchase of six Vectron MS locomotives for RTC S.p.A. and InRail S.p.A.
The transalpine line for cross-border freight transport will be strengthened with six new state-of-the-art locomotives, certified for rail operations in 12 European countries, including Italy, Austria and Germany. The locomotives will be deployed along the Brenner Pass, one of the main Alpine freight corridors. They have a maximum output of 6.4 megawatts and a top speed of 160 km/h, and are equipped with advanced safety systems.
“We are pleased to sign this financing agreement today, which allows Volksbank to provide further support for environmentally friendly mobility. This is a highly valuable investment for the region and for cross-border rail freight, which will benefit from six new electric locomotives helping to shift part of freight traffic from road to rail, thus reducing CO2 emissions. With this investment, a symbol of forward-looking public-private cooperation, Volksbank confirms its role as a strategic partner for sustainable and innovative mobility,” said Alberto Naef, General Manager of Volksbank.
“In a complex market such as rail, the opportunity to invest in cutting-edge locomotives capable of operating in many European countries enables us to increase our operational capacity, improve service reliability and respond with greater flexibility to customer needs. It is a strategic investment,” commented Martin Ausserdorfer, CEO of RTC/InRail, “that looks to the long term and strengthens our commitment to increasingly efficient, sustainable and competitive rail transport on a European scale.”
“Ours is a capital-intensive sector,” added Astrid Kofler, President of RTC, “and being able to count on the support of a solid and forward-looking financial partner makes all the difference. We thank Volksbank for believing in our project and financing the purchase of these six next-generation Vectron locomotives, an operation that allows us to support growth and look to the future with ambition”.
