TRIESTE – A new industrial investment is taking shape in Marghera, with the green light for a plastics recycling plant in the former Alcoa area.
The project, promoted by Eco+Eco s.r.l., a company of the Veritas Group, has been authorised by the Port System Authority through the Simplified Logistics Zone (ZLS) procedure. The development will rise in via della Geologia, within the Porto Marghera industrial area, on a site covering more than 41,000 square metres.
Total investment amounts to around 34 million euros, of which 22 million will go to the plant and 12 million to civil works and infrastructure. Construction is expected to take about two years. Once fully operational, the site will provide around 100 new jobs. The new complex will be dedicated to the treatment and recycling of plastic materials, with the aim of recovering material to be reintroduced into production cycles. The project fits into the circular economy and ecological transition strategies involving Porto Marghera, with the aim of reducing reliance on virgin raw materials.
From an operational point of view, the plant will include a main processing shed, storage and handling areas, spaces for vehicle maintenance and a building for management and administrative functions. Staff facilities and logistics structures supporting the industrial activity are also planned. The initiative is directly linked to the Venetian port system. The new facility is in fact expected to generate an increase in seaborne traffic linked to materials resulting from the processing activity, strengthening the role of the port of Venice in recovery and waste management supply chains in the Mediterranean.
Attention is also being paid to energy and environmental aspects. On the roof of the main shed there will be a photovoltaic system with a capacity of more than 500 kW, while the buildings will be fitted with green roofs to improve thermal insulation, manage rainwater and reduce the impact of temperatures on the structures.
