TRIESTE – Navigation safety and the streamlining of operational processes are the levers on which to build the growth of the Port of Monfalcone. These were the key points that emerged from the technical and institutional meeting held at the Monfalcone Harbour Master’s Office between Commander Fausto Schirone and Marco Consalvo, President of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority. The two-hour discussion allowed the parties to address the main bureaucratic and logistical bottlenecks that still affect the port’s operations. The shared aim is to define a stable, coordinated working method capable of making port management more efficient and strengthening safety levels for vessels arriving and departing.
During the summit, both sides reiterated their common intention to support the growth of commercial traffic, which is already showing double-digit increases. According to both parties, this growth must be based on two key elements: safe navigation conditions, also in view of accommodating larger vessels, and the protection of port workers who operate daily on quays and yards. The dialogue confirmed a strong alignment between the maritime authority and the port system authority, with a commitment to strengthen cooperation to face a complex international scenario and to ensure an increasingly central role for the Port of Monfalcone in the area’s economic development.
A series of requests, which also concern the Port of Trieste, instead come from Fit Cisl FVG. The sectoral union is asking President Consalvo to address immediately a number of priorities it considers no longer postponable for the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone. In a context marked by strong commercial and geopolitical pressure, the union is urging swift, practical decisions.
The issues raised include strengthening safety in terminals, increasing the number of inspectors with port-specific expertise, fully enforcing the Highway Code in operational areas and resuming infrastructure works, starting with Servola (the project for the new railway station within the Port of Trieste) and the Port of Monfalcone. Fit Cisl FVG also stresses the urgency of appointing the Authority’s Secretary General and the full respect of Law 84/94, considered the foundation for ensuring regulated, safe and high-quality work.
