TRIESTE – 2025 closes as a record year for FHP Terminal Monfalcone, a company controlled by FHP Group. Over the year, the terminal recorded 13% growth compared to 2024, exceeding for the first time the threshold of 3 million tonnes handled by sea. The result was accompanied by strong growth in intermodality, with 1,628 trains transporting more than 1.3 million tonnes of goods and over 85,000 tonnes handled by barge. Figures that also had positive effects in environmental and safety terms, thanks to the reduction of road flows and road traffic in the port and urban area of Monfalcone. The growth in rail and inland-waterway volumes helped contain emissions and improve the overall organisation of traffic flows.
The results – the Group explains in a note – were made possible by the work of staff across the various company departments and by the operational support of Impresa Alto Adriatico (ex Article 17 of Law 84/94), with which FHP Terminal Monfalcone recorded more than 10,000 deployments, equal to over 40% of the total. An organisational set-up that made it possible to increase operational efficiency and reduce vessel waiting times during a phase of intense maritime traffic.
«The results achieved in 2025 represent an important step forward for our terminal and for the entire port community of Monfalcone» commented GianCarlo Russo, CEO of FHP Terminal Monfalcone. «We are proud of our progress and determined to continue investing in People through training, and in our infrastructure and technologies to further improve the quality of our services. Our objective now is to expand our capacity and attract new customers, thereby also contributing to the area’s economic growth». The focus is now on the next development phases for the port.
«To reach these new targets – the manager added – it is essential to resolve some short-term issues in order to plan an ambitious path for the entire Port of Monfalcone, as already set out in the Port Master Plan. In particular, there is the extension of tug service operating hours, and the possibility to bring trains into and out of the port so as to operate also during night hours, providing an adequate response to market demand». Among the priorities highlighted by the terminal are also several infrastructure works. «We also believe it is very important to resolve two other issues: faster completion of the redevelopment works on the public quay, in order to limit disruptions to the berthing of large vessels that must use the deeper berths, and to enable, from both gate 1 and gate 2, train operations for all cargo types, so as to reduce interference and ensure better safety» Russo concluded.
