TRIESTE – Operational tests for the Translate4Rail project have been successfully completed along the border between Italy and Slovenia, marking the final testing phase of the automatic translation system for railway communications.
The trials were carried out on 18 and 19 March on the Sežana–Villa Opicina and Bivio d’Aurisina sections, and subsequently between Gorizia Centrale and Nova Gorica, involving train drivers and traffic controllers under real operating conditions.
During the tests, operators used the tool for exchanging operational communications, checking the handling of predefined messages and the system’s overall functionality in different scenarios. The activities were conducted with the support of instructors on board, ensuring compliance with safety conditions.
The project aims to improve rail interoperability on cross-border sections, overcoming language barriers through shared digital solutions.
The final results of the testing phase will be presented on 15 April 2026 during the project’s closing conference, dedicated to the evolution of international railway communications.
