TRIESTE – Growing traffic and numerous works on the rail network are creating difficulties at the port of Koper.
As already reported in early May with numerous train cancellations, it is once again Metrans (the logistics company controlled by Hamburg-based HHLA) that is highlighting the situation. “Due to the ongoing unfavorable rail transport conditions in Slovenia, the ongoing closures and the capacity issues of SŽ TP (the rail infrastructure manager), in addition to the difficult situation at the port of Koper, we are still forced to adjust our train departure schedules daily and reduce the number of departures,” Metrans writes. Delays in recent days have reached up to 12 hours, and trains to and from the port of Koper have been scheduled based on the availability of train paths, which remains quite limited. “The overall planning of shipments from the port of Koper has slowed down due to scheduled closures, both permanent and urgent,” Metrans further explains. Traffic suspensions along Slovenia’s rail network are continuing and have already had a significant impact on train departures. Last week alone, Metrans had to cancel 8 pairs of trains. Rail operators are scheduling additional services based on the capacity of the rail infrastructure, but without any guarantee on transit times.
