TRIESTE – Natale Ditel has been appointed secretary general of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea by unanimous decision of the management committee. The appointment was made in Trieste during the first meeting of the committee chaired by Marco Consalvo, who put forward his name and obtained the backing of all members, including the Harbour Master’s Office, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Municipality of Trieste. A lawyer born in 1964 and originally from Cagliari, Ditel arrives after a long career within the Italian port system. From 2018 to 2026 he served as secretary general of the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia, a post he held for two consecutive terms, gaining experience in administrative management, coordination of the technical and operational structure and industrial relations.
In 2026 he also served as security director at the Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, which includes the ports of Genoa. According to Consalvo, he is a technical profile with well-established expertise, set to play a key role in supporting the presidency operationally during a phase of growth for the Upper Adriatic port system.
«With this appointment – Consalvo commented – we are significantly strengthening the Authority’s structure. Ditel has a technical profile and is a professional who knows the day-to-day operations of ports, the administrative machinery and the dynamics of port labour from close quarters. His experience means we can rely on a figure capable of ensuring continuity, while also giving concrete momentum to ongoing activities and projects».
The new secretary general, who will take office on 13 April, said: «I thank president Consalvo for the trust he has placed in me and I thank the members of the committee who voted for me. It is a great honour for me to take on the role of secretary general of the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone, a system that represents not only an Italian excellence, but also a benchmark in the international and European logistics landscape. I feel a strong sense of responsibility in serving an institution that is the economic engine of the territory and a gateway to the markets of central and eastern Europe. I will work while ensuring the fullest possible dialogue with workers and with the entire port community».
