TRIESTE – The start of 2026 confirms a very positive picture for the Port of Ravenna. The first figures from the Port Community System indicate that in January total throughput reached almost 2.3 million tonnes, up 18.6% compared with the same month in 2025.

Growth was driven above all by dry agri-food commodities, which posted an increase of 76.7%, equal to more than 240,000 additional tonnes year on year. The performance of petroleum cargoes was also very strong, up 75.2%, with more than 150,000 extra tonnes. Particularly significant signals also came from solid chemical products: volumes more than doubled (+151.5%).

Other traditional sectors of the port were also up. Fertilizers rose by 17.3%, liquid agri-food cargoes increased by 12.2%, while construction materials showed a more limited but still positive gain (+2.7%). Moving against the trend were metallurgical products, down 12.9%, and above all liquid chemicals, which are estimated to have fallen by 45.3%. The number of trailers was also down, by 5.6%.

The positive trend in container traffic continues: in January 2026 volumes are expected to exceed 15,200 TEU, up 3% compared with the same month in 2025. Even stronger is the increase in tonnes carried in containers, estimated at +12.5%.
On rail intermodality, final 2025 data show 7,592 trains handled at the Port of Ravenna, slightly down on 2024 (-158 trains), but with higher transported volumes, which reached 3.69 million tonnes, equal to +3.8% year on year.
