TRIESTE — With the cutting of the first sheet of metal, construction has officially begun on the new “Classe Bandiera” offshore patrol vessel for the Guardia di Finanza. For Cartubi, this is a particularly significant project, marking the construction of the largest naval vessel ever built by the shipyard for the paramilitary sector.
The vessel, approximately 60 meters long, will be built based on a design by the Dutch Damen Group and will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system. Featuring the proven “axe-shaped” hull, the patrol vessel is designed to ensure high operational performance and excellent seaworthiness even in challenging conditions.
The construction is part of an international industrial program under which Cartubi will operate in compliance with the standards required by the Guardia di Finanza. The entire process will be carried out under the constant supervision of the Italian Naval Register (RINA), with the goal of achieving the highest class notation available for the vessel.
Once completed, the ship will become the new flagship of the Guardia di Finanza fleet and will be named P05 Judrio. The name refers to the Judrio River, which forms part of the border between Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Slovenia and holds symbolic significance in the history of the Guardia di Finanza: during World War I, members of the Guardia di Finanza distinguished themselves there for the courage they demonstrated in operations along the front.
The start of construction also confirms Cartubi’s ability to participate in high-tech naval programs, thereby consolidating its role in the shipbuilding of special-purpose and government vessels.
