TRIESTE – The keel-laying ceremony for a new cruise ship, Oceania Sonata, was held at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard (Venice).

The official event brought together representatives of Oceania Cruises (Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Group) and Fincantieri, including senior executives from both the cruise line and the shipyard. The vessel is the first of the new “Sonata” class and is part of a fleet expansion plan with sister ships scheduled for the coming years.

Oceania Sonata will be one of Oceania Cruises’ largest and most spacious ships. She will have a gross tonnage of around 86,000 and is designed to accommodate about 1,390 guests and over 850 crew members. The new class stems from the evolution of the design of previous Oceania ships built by Fincantieri, further strengthening the partnership between the US cruise operator and the Italian yard in Marghera, which is already engaged in other major projects in the luxury cruise segment.

Delivery of Oceania Sonata is scheduled for summer 2027, with initial itineraries calling at European and international ports, further enhancing the company’s high-end cruise offering on the global market.
