TRIESTE – The new hybrid motor vessel Olimpia is now operational in the Navigazione Laghi fleet, designed to strengthen the public service with greater capacity and lower emissions.
The vessel was built by Cartubi shipyard, based in Trieste, further consolidating its presence in the hybrid passenger-vessel segment. The motor vessel Olimpia is the fourth in the series built for Navigazione Laghi. Cartubi handled the entire production cycle through to commissioning, including the operational support phase for the crew.
The inauguration took place yesterday in Lecco in the presence of Minister Matteo Salvini and Undersecretary Alessandro Morelli, together with local authorities. The unit has a capacity of 350 passengers and will enter service during the summer.
It is 35 metres long, 7.50 metres wide and reaches a speed of 12.5 knots. It is equipped with an air-conditioned main lounge, bar and refreshment area, storage for 12 bicycles and charging sockets for e-bikes.
Olimpia is the fourth hybrid motor vessel built for Navigazione Laghi on Lake Como and is part of a series that already includes units such as Ambrosiana and Agone. With this delivery, the operator’s fleet reaches a total of 101 vessels.
From a technical point of view, the vessel can operate in fully electric mode for more than two hours, at speeds of up to six knots. The project is part of a broader plan to develop lake transport, supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. According to the government operator, overall investments earmarked for the lakes exceed €100 million and concern both fleet renewal and infrastructure upgrades.
