TRIESTE – The new e-RTGs (Electric Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes) for the terminal operated by PSA Venice Vecon are on their way to Porto Marghera (Venice).
The yard cranes left the port of Shanghai three weeks ago, where ZPMC – the company in charge of their construction – completed the securing and welding operations of the cargo on board the vessel Zhen Hua 35.
The general cargo ship is currently sailing across the Indian Ocean. After rounding the Cape of Good Hope, the route includes stopovers in Morocco and Genoa before reaching Venice after a journey of more than two months.
The cranes were designed and built with custom features to meet the specific needs of the PSA Venice – Vecon container terminal in Porto Marghera. They represent a concrete step towards a more efficient, innovative and green yard management system.
The three e-RTGs, being 100% electric, will replace the current diesel units, significantly increasing yard capacity, improving operational performance (including container delivery turnaround times), reducing emissions and enhancing environmental sustainability.
The Zhen Hua 35 is expected to arrive in Marghera during the last week of December.
“This investment marks the completion of the first development phase launched after the renewal of our concession in 2023, and confirms our commitment to a greener, more digital and high-performance port industry,” said PSA Venice Vecon.
